Why do women seem to have more body and weight issues than men? Why can’t there be a wonder drug that can help us lose weight without having to diet or exercise?
We look at celebrities — with fab and hot bods — and we envy them for they seem to look good effortlessly all the time. However, truth is, behind all that glitz and glam, they go to extreme lengths to keep up with their beautiful appearances. From extreme weight-loss diets to painful plastic surgeries, they do all sorts of crazy things to look picture-perfect.
Don’t believe me? Check out these crazy extreme weight-loss methods which celebrities have attempted.
Chinese actress Huo Siyan (霍思燕) revealed on her Weibo that her husband, Jiang Du (杜江), who is also an actor, takes salt for dinner. Err, yes, SALT.
Her post below reads: “So good at saving money, eating only salt for dinner”
In her post, she also attached two pictures, one of which is a collage of the actor’s 21-days progress visuals, showing his successful weight loss journey, while the other one is a screenshot of a post.
Translation of the post below:
“It was about half a year ago, it was the first event I attended with Teacher (Jiang Du), an event organized by Dior in Shanghai. On our way to the event venue, he took out a bag of salt. That’s right, salt that’s use for cooking. He took a mouthful of it and washed it down with drinking water. That was his dinner. As an obese middle-aged woman, I could only watch him in awe. I thought to myself: I shall just live my life being fat. I would never be able to bring myself to eat that salt or mud, for that matter.”
Of course, if you’ve heard of success stories, it is more likely you’d also be tempted to give it a try, right?
So, another Chinese actress, Jiang Shuying (江疏影), who quickly got the wind of the amazing “Salt Diet”, decided to give the “Salt Diet” a try.
In her Weibo, she posted: “It’s been a depressing year. I heard… If you consume this during the Fashion Week, you will be as skinny as… Lightning!”
Netizens then flocked to her Weibo and expressed their concern for the actress, some left comments such as, “My goddess, you are skinny enough”, “No, don’t do that! Eat normally”, “No! We want you to be chubby!”, “Eating salt can help to reduce the fluid in your body, but not fats. Eating too much salt can cause damage to your health”, and so on.
The actor later left a comment on the actress’s Weibo post to clarify, “Eating salt does not help one to lose weight. It is only one of the first steps to remove excess water from the body. Please don’t do it, you are skinny enough.”
Seriously. Salt leh.
Eat already you’d probably need kidney dialysis cues the NKF song 为我点盏灯将我心照亮~
Lao Gan Ma Diet
Standing at 169cm and weighing 45kg, Chinese actress Ying Er (颖儿) revealed on a TV programme that she’s tried losing weight through various methods.
And one of them is the Lao Gan Ma Diet in which she’s lost 25kg by surviving on ONE black bean per day and nothing else.
In case you’re not familiar, Lao Gan Ma (老干妈) or Old Godmother is a household name for its condiments in China. Lao Gan Ma’s Black Beans is a combination of soybeans and chili oil, often used as condiments on everything, from noodles to eggs. You can find them in our local supermarkets too.
The actress shared, “Whenever I feel hungry and had a craving for something salty, or when I felt faint, I’d eat one of those beans. Having satisfied my taste bud gives me strength to pull through the rest of the day. Then I will sleep the hunger away.”
However, it didn’t take too long for her regained all of that lost weight which resulted in her putting on more weight than she’d lost.
Fortunately, Ying Er has ditched all extreme weight-loss methods and has switched to healthier ways to maintain her weight by eating clean and exercising regularly.
But how do you sleep the hunger away? I’ve tried many many times but I’d always succumb to my poor growling stomach and end up eating cup noodles in the middle of the night. And most importantly, I feel satisfied and happier :p
Yes, you heard me right, EARTHWORMS!
Taiwanese celebrity Tina Yen (严立婷) started watching her weight at the age of 18. The model turned host was weighing at 47kg when she heard from a friend, whose relative was a Traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, that eating earthworms can help in losing weight.
She’d picked the earthworms from the garden within her school compound, wash them under the tap before swallowing it alive. She revealed that although she’d only eaten one, she could actually feel the earthworm wriggling in her stomach.
After swallowing it, the earthworm inside your body would feed off the energy and nutrients from the food that you eat – sounds good? But nope, that didn’t happen. Instead it had opposite effect.
Her friend who’d recommended her the earthworm diet, ended up gaining weight severely after eating the earthworms for a year (WHUT?!) because the bacteria had damaged her metabolism.
Cotton Ball Diet
Did you know that Hong Kong singer-actress Sammi Cheng (郑秀文) had resort to the cotton ball diet to stay skinny?
This crazy diet trend, which involves swallowing cotton balls dipped in juice, had emerged in the modeling industry initially. Bria Murphy, daughter of actor Eddie Murphy who’s also a model, spilled the beans in an interview on the extreme lengths models would go to in order to look skinnier.
“I’ve heard of people eating the cotton balls with the orange juice… They dip it in the orange juice and then they eat the cotton balls to help them feel full, because the cotton’s not doing anything. It’s just dissolving. And it makes you think you’re full, but you’re not.”
Nevertheless, medical experts have come forward to warn that the so-called cotton ball diet can pose serious health risks and that it should be avoided at all costs.
Rib Removal Surgery
Liposuction? Bariatric surgery? Scratch that. Nothing can be more dramatic than having your ribs removed for a skinnier waist-line.
Sweden-born model Pixee Fox – who aspires to look like Tinkerbell and Jessica Rabbit – had undergone numerous plastic surgery procedures and one of which includes having six of her ribs removed to achieve her tiny waist.
The real-life Barbie, whose waist is currently 16 inches, said her ultimate aim is to break the current world record for smallest waist of 15 inches. She revealed, “I’m pretty close to the world record, and I think if I just get time to heal and work out and continue my lifestyle, I’m probably going to go down to 14 inches soon.”
But IF I have to choose one of the above, I’d choose the Lao Gan Ma diet any day. I don’t think I would want to eat the salt, swallow earthworms or cotton balls. And most definitely, I’d rather starve to death than to have my ribs removed.
What about you?
